Valentines Day Math and Lit Stations and a FREEBIE!

This is a cute Cinquain poem that makes a great bulletin board piece and is good practice for editing and revising. The student will fill in the first page. This page gives them hints for what word goes in the blank. When they finish this they will want to check it for spelling and to make sure they choose words that work for each blank.

Once they are done with there rough draft they will make their final draft. This can be done on the template provided or you can let them choose a piece of color construction paper and have them make lines with a ruler.

We couldn't start February without making some great stations for the month. I am really excited about how cute these turned out.

Letter cards that can be used with the sorting sheets. There is also an acitivity for before and after. The letters can just be used in an ABC station or to help with the Boogle game.

A Valentines spinner where students keep track with tally marks and then graph the information and answer the questions

These cards are laminated and then students can use dry erase markers to make all the words they can for each word family and then easily clean them off for the next student.

I love these stamp a word cards. Students look at the picture on the card and then stamp out how to spell it.

Students put the mixed up sentences in order and then write them on the recording sheet.
The synonym cards can be used to match or can be used to play memory.

Students match the words with the contraction they make and then write their answers on the recording sheet.

These cute cards are for ABC order. The cards are put in order and then recorded on the recording sheet.

This is a contraction game. The pack also includes an addition game.

These little guys are my favorite. The students will use the hearts to measure the objects and then record their answers on the sheet. If they finish other objects can always be added to measure such as their desk, shoe, book or pencil!

I love these dinosaurs! They are from Pink Cat Studio. There are number cards to 100. They can be used for sorting and also go with the addition game.

These base ten cards are used for a greater then less than activity.

The number cards or base ten cards could always be used to create an addition or subtraction station as well. You could also find the dinosaurs with the matching numbers as the base ten cards and have the students play memory.

I love how this pack turned out! You can find it at our TPT store HERE

Groundhog Day Poem

Fabulous poem for shared reading. Great for a Friday morning activity- have students highlight rhyming words. They can also buddy read with a partner, using expression with the question marks.

Groundhog day!

Have students celebrate Groundhog day with a short writing activity. Use a groundhog die cut or any groundhog picture and have them glue it on white paper. Have them draw a shadow if they think he will see his shadow. See example below--this is a great bulletin board filler!

Presidents Day Noun Sort

We have spent this week trying to get back into the swing of things. We have put our mammal pack, a Chinese New Year and Presidents Day pack on TPT. We made this noun sort to go with the Presidents Day pack. It's a great activity that can be used as a station or as an individual activity.

Here is the Presidents Day Noun Sort

Time for Treats

Every since the holidays have been over I feel like I have completely fallen off the wagon and can not get back on. I started looking through some clip art from Scrappin Doodles the other day and found some really cute clip art so that has helped motivate me some. I used it to create a really cute math station for time. It's at our TPT store here http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Time-for-Treats. I decided to repaint my living room, move my sons into the same room and paint that room. I have finished that and I am really happy about how it turned our. My husband thought I was nuts when he came home from work and saw a newly painted living room. Now that I have finished that I plan to get moving again. Next up will be to upload our Presidents day pack and then more Horrible Harry book studies. When you are using a chapter book and want a book study to go with it what do you want it to have most of all?

Mammals and Freebie Science Fair Project!

We finished our big mammals unit and placed it on TPT. It is 73 pages and is full of literacy and math activities all pertaining to animals! Check it out!

Science Fair Projects are fast approaching! When I was teaching 2nd grade they weren't quite ready to do one on their own. This is a great "first step" in science fair project learning. Use a big piece of white paper and fold into thirds just like a tri-fold poster. Have students fill out the squares, cut out, and glue on to the paper. We would do this as a whole class activity.

Finally Back!

After a what feels like forever we are finally back to the blogging world. We figured with the start of the spring semester this meant upcoming animal units so we are starting to work on a mammal unit that I think is going to be AWESOME! Until it is finished here is a cute mammals reader. Hopefully we can get back into swing enough to get the rest of the unit finished soon.
